There’s a Lot to Unpack Here
At the Tokyo Games Show 2019, Square Enix unveiled a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake and all the suckers in the news are sinking their teeth in. I’m going to sink my teeth into this trailer. I’m the sucker. Fans of the original game will love what the Final Fantasy VII Remake TGS trailer has to show you. Iconic moments, familiar songs, photo-realistic re-imaginings of formerly polygonal people; this trailer has it all. Even the silliest things about FFVII are making their return, ribbit.
As you may know, this episode or whatever it’s being called is taking place entirely within Midgar. This means the game will include events between the bombing of first Mako reactor and when Avalanche escapes the city. The trailer teases the encounter Cloud has with Don Corneo by showing Aerith all dolled up, but we don’t get to see Cloud’s disguise just yet. We are also shown some of the Turks. Reno, Rude, and Tseng make an appearance. An original character, who remains unnamed, is also included; another SOLDIER. He may play a role as a primary antagonist for this release.
We also see some secondary gameplay elements. Cloud and Tifa are seen playing minigames like darts and a fitness competition, which makes a return from the original game. The most ?!? status effect Frog is also back, as a frog with Cloud’s Buster Sword on its back is seen briefly. Final Fantasy VII Remake will be available on PS4 on March 3rd, 2020.
