We’ll Know More Soon Enough
DLC isn’t pushed out on a whim. It takes a long time to plan and is usually figured out before a game even launches. This is the case with Borderlands 3. Even a few months ago, Gearbox has said that they have already planned it out. At the time they were obviously not ready to share any details, but soon they will. We already know that there will be four story pieces of Borderlands 3 DLC, plus more. It’s the more that we’re wondering about, and Gearbox may have dropped hints to point us in the right direction.
In Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel, extra characters have been added in DLC. While additional Vault Hunters like Krieg, Jack’s Doppelganger, and Aurelia have been fan-favourites, character DLC may stray from this path. It is entirely possible that there will be no new characters and that some DLC will focus on Zane, FL4K, Moze, and Amara. Randy Pitchford suggested that skill trees may be expanded on or abilities might be added. To be honest, that does not exactly sound like traditional DLC, more like… well, like dlc in lower case.
Still, if we have learned anything from the most recent Borderlands 2 DLC it’s that Gearbox can surprise us with downloadable content 7 years later. There may still be additional characters coming anytime between launch and Borderlands 4, so if none of these new Vault Hunters satisfy you, fear not. Borderlands 3 comes out on September 13th on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on the Epic Games Store. And check out all our other Borderlands 3 news on our site.
