Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair’s Alternate Levels Aim to Mix Things Up

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair Launches Later This Year

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair revealed a new game mode on Monday: alternate level states. All 20 in-game levels have alternate versions which bumps the total amount of levels to 40.

Players can create these alternate levels by “hooking up electricity, flood chapters with running water or literally flip them upside down for radically altered challenges.” Going by the gameplay trailer posted above, these alternate levels will have their own collectable bees as well.

As the colorful platforming pair, Yooka-Laylee, players must collect bees that are part of Queen Phoebee’s Royal Beettalion in order to traverse the titular Impossible Lair.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Yooka-Laylee sequel then go ahead and read our hands-on preview. “You’ll notice right off the bat that this title is a 2.5D sidescrolling platformer in the vein of Donkey Kong Country,” the preview’s author noted. “I was a little skeptical of the change at first but this new structure lends itself brilliantly to the new mechanics of the game and in no time at all I was having a blast.”
