Gears of War 5 Characters Can be Bought With Actual Money or Earned in Game

Try Not to Rack Up Your Mom’s Credit Card

The first stages of the Gears of War 5 test or beta have been ragging this weekend. If you have been unlucky enough to miss this weekend’s tests, do not worry. The beta is going to return next weekend as well. This should give everyone the opportunity to play, whether for the first time, or just someone returning to the game from the previous weekend.

The tests have revealed a ton about the game. We got our first good look at how the characters are going to work in the new arcade mode. For those unaware, Gears of War 5 is implementing a new arcade deathmatch. This online mode offers both sides 5 unique classes that all offer something different in the game. Each class has different abilities and starting weapons. Each hero, or character will have a different weapon progression tree when they kill someone. In arcade deathmatch, the player receives a new weapon every time they kill an opponent. Sort of like gun game.

However, not all of the heroes will be available from the get-go. They will have to be unlocked in a similar way to that of Rainbow Six Seige. The characters can be bought with in-game currency that is obtained just by simply playing the game. But, if you are feeling a little impatient the option to buy them upfront with real-world money is also a possibility.

“The new structure is built to respect player choice: earnable items are not purchasable, purchasable items are not earnable, and free items are only free. The player always knows what they get if they are earning or purchasing content,” said multiplayer design director Ryan Cleven.

This structure might not be the most popular, but it definitely is more favorable than loot boxes.
