Square Enix Is Aiming for the Level of Success as Spider-Man with Marvel’s Avengers

The Goal for Marvel’s Avengers Is to Reach the Same Level of Success as Spider-Man

Marvel games have a history of being relatively underwhelming, at least that was before Marvel’s Spider-Man released last year. Now, considering just how well received Insomniac’s Spider-Man was, the previously low standard is now sky high. With such high expectations to live up to, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are aiming to, at the very least, reach that same level of success with Marvel’s Avengers.

Now as it stands right now, following the first official reveal trailer for Marvel’s Avengers at E3 2019, some fans are worried that the hype surrounding the game might be too much to live up to. Despite this, Yosuke Matsuda, President of Square Enix recently stated the following while talking to GamesIndustry, “Spider-Man was a huge title and a major success, so we would like to work hard to have that kind of success. So I guess it did increase my expectations [for Avengers]. I do believe you have to have high goals. I thought that Spider-Man was fantastic, but we don’t want to be bested by them. We are working very hard on the development effort right now, so that we are able to provide a new experience.”

And if you can remember after Spider-Man was first revealed it too didn’t receive the most positive praise. Fast forward to its release however and all of those concerns just melted away. If Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are aiming for the same level of success then fingers crossed they will slap plenty of polish on Marvel’s Avengers and address fan concerns before it’s release next year.
