Octopath Traveler Prequel Announced, Heading to iOS and Android

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent Will Launch in 2019

Square Enix Japan has announced a prequel to their hit Switch RPG, Octopath Traveler but this time it’s heading to mobile.

Titled Octopath Traveler: Tairiku no Hasha, which roughly translates to “Champions of the Continent,” this new version will launch in 2019 for iOS and Android devices.

Based on the launch trailer above, the game looks and sound identical to the Switch original but the controls have been modified to work on smart devices, such as implementing touch controls and on-rail movement. In other words, this one can probably be played with just one hand.

The story will be set seven years before the original in the same land of Osterra. Characters from the Switch version will also make an appearance.

One of the biggest changes is that the number of characters in battle has increased to eight. While the game will launch with eight playable characters again, there will also be additional characters added later. You can also expect more story content to be added too.

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be free to play but will have optional in-game purchases. Don’t expect to see any multiplayer either — this is a straight up single-player RPG experience designed for mobile.
