Ubisoft Says Battle Royale for Rainbow Six Siege Isn’t Going to Happen
Though it’s no secret that Ubisoft is looking to get into the hot battle royale scene, don’t hold your breath if you were hoping to see Rainbow Six Siege break out into the hottest game mode in the industry right now. In a recent interview Ubisoft Montreal’s Alexandre Remy shut down the idea of a battle royale for the Rainbow Six Siege completely.
As it turns out, there is zero possibility of a battle royale mode for Rainbow Six Siege. This is a topic Alexandre Remy, brand director with Ubisoft Montreal, discusses with Gamereactor at the Six Invitational 2019. He explained why the popular esports game wouldn’t be making the leap into battle royale, “No, I think battle royale is already out of the question. Rainbow Six, it’s a game that follows rules, follows pillars that are not compatible with battle royale. The asymmetric nature of the game, the importance of team composition, team synergy, and team communication, the importance of destruction, of Operators – all of those elements, clear rules that are making Rainbow Six really a unique experience in the shooter genre, are not compatible with the battle royale.”
He continued by giving props to the other battle royale games as well, suggesting that they just wouldn’t be able to hold up against the competition if they were to join the mix. “And to be very, very honest, I think there are people that are doing battle royale tremendously well, so it would be almost, for us, throwing ourselves in a room where we may fail. I think Rainbow Six should be Rainbow Six, what it is, keep on doing what we do, so bringing new Operators, bringing more features, helping our overall player experience in the best way that we are doing, but Rainbow Six is not a battle royale and does not intend to be.”
Seems like a good call on Ubisoft’s part not to have a battle royale for Rainbow Six Siege. But what about their other titles? Is there one in particular you think might be a good fit for the genre? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to keep it locked for updates!
