Piranha Plant May be Eating Up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Save Data

Turns Out he was a Bad Guy all Along

Remember when saving your game meant that you would never have to do that boss fight ever again? Or that you were done with those annoying collectibles? Well, those days are behind you thanks to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s new DLC character the Piranha Plant. The character has come out for players who registered their game online and is now available to play as, but that may cost gamers more than they are ready to lose. There are reports that SSBU save data is becoming corrupted after using the Piranha Plant.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The trigger is not as simple as “using the Piranha Plant” however. The claims come after using the character in the All-Star mode. This is the mode where players pick a character to play as, and then battle each of the game’s other characters in chronological order. Apparently, playing as Piranha Plant corrupts the game’s save file. That’s a big yikes! No one wants that, so COG is going to help you out, for free.

To avoid this, simply backup your save data in the cloud. To backup your save data, your console must be connected to the internet, and if you have the problem character unlocked, then you are probably connected to the internet. To access the cloud, you must have a Nintendo Online subscription. On the HOME Menu, select the SSBU Options Menu to find the Save Data Cloud Backup. That’s all there is to it, just do it BEFORE you decide to take on the All-Star mode as Piranha Plant. My advice is avoid the character entirely until this whole thing is resolved. You’ve been warned. Happy Smashing!
