Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son is not the Sequel you Expected

Let’s do the Time Loop Again

1993’s Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray is getting a sequel, but it’s not a movie. It’s a PSVR game. This is the second major Bill Murray movie to get a video game sequel, the first being Ghostbusters. Anyway, Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son takes place an entire generation after the movie. The game stars Phil Connors Jr., the son of Bill Murray’s character Phil Connors. Like his father (hence the name of the game) Phil Jr. is forced to relive the same day over and over until it is perfect.

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son

Being a PSVR game, it is obviously made by Sony. They give a short description of the game’s premise: “Like Father Like Son, you’ll play as the charming but arrogant Phil Connors Jr., who grew up in the shadow of his father — a man who spent a lifetime repeating a single day until he had made it perfect. But for Phil Jr., today is the worst day of his life. He’s trapped back home in Punxsutawney, the small town he thought he’d escaped, where he can’t even get a decent cappuccino — and he’s going to have to repeat the day over and over, until he learns the true value of friends and family.” Check out the trailer below.

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Song will be released sometime in 2019. It will also take its place as one of the video game sequels of movies. Such examples include Stranglehold, Back to the Future: The Game, Alien: Isolation, Ghosterbusters: The Video Game, and some others that were not so good. Will it end up being one of those not-so-good games? We’ll just have to wait and see.
