Cuphead Art Book Launching This October

The Art of Cuphead: Perfect for Any Diehard Fan

Studio MDHR, the makers of the astoundingly hard but charming Cuphead, is releasing a 160-page art book dedicated to the run and gun action game.

If there’s one game that probably deserves a companion art book, it’s definitely Cuphead. Releasing on October 22nd, the Art of Cuphead is a “curated collection of artwork” where each page “is designed to capture the vintage look and feel of the 1930s.” It’ll contain plenty of concepts, production work, and early ideas — basically, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the games’ characters, bosses, stages, and more.

Here’s a bit more about the book from the Amazon product listing:

“Relive the most cherished and challenging moments of Cuphead and Mugman’s adventure to reclaim their souls from The Devil, all in a way you’ve never seen before! Guided by personal insights from game directors Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, take a one-of-a-kind trip through the Inkwell Isles and discover an all-new appreciation for Cuphead’s animation style and challenging retro gameplay.”

Cuphead was released on Xbox One and PC in September 2017, where it earned critical acclaim for its beautiful art style and challenging but rewarding gameplay. In our review, we called it “an indie darling that pulls you in with its cartoony graphics and keeps you there with its engaging gameplay, a blast from multiple pasts that’s worth the trip to yesteryear.”

Studio MDHR intends to release the Delicious Last Course (DLC, get it?) later this year. The developer has also said that they have some “pretty epic” ideas for their next game.
