Activision Blizzard Plans to Announce the Layoffs on Tuesday
The video game holding company Activision Blizzard is reportedly planning to layoff possibly hundreds of its employees and will announce these layoffs next Tuesday, according to a Bloomberg report published on Thursday.
According to one of Bloomberg’s sources, these planned layoffs “are part of a restructuring aimed at centralizing functions and boosting profit”.
It’s been a tough 2019 for Activision Blizzard so far. In the beginning of January, the company’s CFO left it for Netflix and, later that month, Activision’s partnership with Destiny developer Bungie ended (which reportedly was a cause for celebration on Bungie’s part).
It also sounds like Activision Blizzard is struggling financially.
“The game maker, one of the largest in the world, acknowledged on a November conference call that some key titles, such as Overwatch and Hearthstone, were seeing flat or declining numbers of users,” Bloomberg’s report reads. “After disappointing sales of Destiny 2: Forsaken, the company parted ways with its developer, Bungie Inc., a move that could reduce annual revenue by as much as $400 million.”
