2019’s Call of Duty will be “Huge and Expansive” says Activision President

It’s Only been Five Months since the Last Game, and We’re Already Talking about a New CoD

The Call of Duty franchise is the king of annual releases. It’s also the king of FPS multiplayer shooters, money, and fourteen year olds calling each other homophobic slurs in the lobby. They’re probably not too proud of that last one, but whatever. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 came out just five months ago, but that annual release beast is hungry for more. Earlier this week, Activision Blizzard’s president Robert Kotick spoke about the 2018 Q4 results as well as the new CoD. He said that it will have a single player campaign, but also teased the game on a grander scale.

According to the call he made, “Activision is building what they believe the best Call of Duty we’ve ever built.” As the president of Activision Blizzard, Kotick kind of has to say good things about the games his company is releasing. It is not like he would really say “This one is alright, but not our best work.” That being said, the Call of Duty franchise has not yet drove itself into the ground, so they kind of know what they’re doing.

In the very same call about the new CoD, Kotick mentioned some pretty major layoffs for Activision Blizzard employees. How will losing employees affect this game? This is brought into question, especially because Robert Kotick said that 2019’s Call of Duty will “feature an entirely new campaign, a huge and expansive multiplayer world, and of course, some fun co-op gameplay.” What does “huge and expansive multiplayer world” mean anyway? Open world concepts do not really lend themselves well to the Call of Duty MO. We’ll have to wait and see.
