Kingdom Hearts III Isn’t Livestream-Friendly
Kingdom Hearts III players who want to use the game for commercial livestreams will be disappointed to find a message notifying them that the companies behind the game don’t allow it.
On the game’s title screen, there is a button prompt called “before you stream,” which brings up the following message:
“This game is a copyrighted work. The copyright is held by The Walt Disney Company and a collaboration of authors representing The Walt Disney Company. Additionally, the copyright of certain characters is held by Square Enix Co, Ltd.”
“You are free to stream the game in non-commercial contexts. However, using the streams of the game to primarily provide or listen to the music is prohibited even in such non-commercial contexts.”
“For more information on the terms of use related to streaming the game, please see the official Kingdom Hearts site. https://kingdomhearts.com/3”
Although this makes it clear that Square and Disney don’t want people streaming the game’s music, it doesn’t make it clear what a “non-commercial” stream is. And apparently, Square Enix has yet to give a clear response to the question of what “non-commercial” streaming is for gamers that want to stream on YouTube or Twitch.
Despite the vague restrictions, players have been streaming the game on Twitch since its launch.
