The Studio Behind the Hitman Games Expands
IO Interactive, the development studio behind the Hitman and Kane & Lynch series, have opened a new studio located in Malmö, Sweden, according to an official Wednesday announcement.
“We are super excited and proud to announce IOI Malmö. We will expand IOI to join a buzzling game developer community and bring our own unique IOI culture to this amazing town,” said IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak.
“Furthermore, this will expand our muscles for creating brand-new and exciting endeavours, new universes, new franchises. In other words, IOI Malmö and Copenhagen are one family,” Abrak also said. “The IOI expansion in Malmö was a natural choice as there is a very strong existing video game industry. I believe it has all opportunities to become the epicentre of game development in Scandinavia.”
Notably, the announcement also mentions how this Sweden-based studio “will strengthen IO Interactive’s commitment to deliver exceptional content to the HITMAN franchise, community and all our fans.”
Exactly how much either of the two recent Hitman games have sold hasn’t been officially announced but opening a new studio that will make more content for the series could mean that either of those games didn’t do poorly commercially.
