Bethesda Shuts Down Fallout 76 Free-to-Play Rumor

Sounds Like Fallout 76 Isn’t Going to Be Free Anytime Soon

A recent rumor about Fallout 76 becoming free-to-play soon was publicly denied by Bethesda on Tuesday. The rumor originated from a YouTube video about the removal of physical copies of the game from EB Games stores in Australia.

“There is no truth to this rumor,” Bethesda’s Twitter account tweeted when the free-to-play rumor was mentioned to the company.

Fallout 76 only launched two months ago and while its critical reception has been mostly negative, this now-debunked rumor was still pretty surprising when it was first going around.

Maybe eventually the game could become free-to-play in the future but, as of writing, Fallout 76 is still being sold. If you’d like to know if it’s worth your money at all then you should read our review before buying the game.

“Fallout 76 is a confused product that blows it on so many levels,” the review’s author wrote. “76 represents a critical misunderstanding about what makes the Fallout franchise special, and sacrifices all those pieces to shoehorn in a half baked and barely functional online system.”
