Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World of Light Story Mode Details Emerge

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Story Mode Will Have a Few Cutscenes

When director Masahiro Sakurai announced the World of Light mode for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during the Nintendo Direct last month he stated that it’s not going to be quite like Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Despite this however, some fans might have high expectations for the story mode. Recently, Nintendo Treehouse’s JC Rodrigo talked to Game Informer about some more World of Light details and this includes what we should expect from the mode.

Talking to Game Informer JC Rodrigo clarified that while there will be a few cutscenes within World of Light for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the game mode is designed more for the loot grind and unlocking spirits than the story itself. Here’s what he had to say, You will see some [cutscenes], but it’s really more on focusing on the loot grind, and that flow of getting Spirits. It’s more about the matches and the way of collecting stuff you have an affinity for – a certain IP or franchise you love and you’re just like, ‘I really need this!’ It’s more about that than anything else, but you may see a couple here and there.”

Though that may not be the news you were hoping for, Rodrigo also talked about Nintendo’s plan and commitment to having DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Okay, so maybe he didn’t have too much to say about which characters are coming down the pipeline with the DLC, but he did say that they will be a surprise, calling the content a “must-have.” Rodrigo stated, “Mr. Sakurai and his team and everyone that works on the game – we love surprises. Just like Piranha Plant, we believe the DLC is going to be a must-have. For me, as a fan…oh man, I would not miss these for the world.”
