Don’t Expect Dragon Quest XII Any Time Soon
While Dragon Quest XI released only three months ago in the US, people are still anxious to find out about the inevitable 12th entry in the series.
Speaking at the computer entertainment developers conference CEDEC + KYUSHU 2018 on December 1st, game designer Yuji Horii was asked by Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino how Dragon Quest XII is going.
“I actually already came up with the keywords, but I can’t say anything here,” Horii jokingly replied. As for a more serious response, Horii did state that he would like the gameplay systems in the next game to be as well received as the story was in DQ11. His said “however, since Dragon Quest XI‘s scenario was well-received, this time I want the same reception for the gameplay systems, but I could also surprise everyone and make it an epic. Now I just feel like teasing everyone (Laughs).”
Horii also said that he keeps “absentmindedly thinking about making the theme the feeling of ‘wanting to make dreams come true.’” Exactly how he will apply that theme to DQ12 is anyone’s guess at this point. While it’s nice to see that he’s thinking about what is next for the popular RPG series, it’s safe to say that the next Dragon Quest game is still very much a thought in his head.
In our review for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, we called it an “easy recommendation.” You can read the full review here.
