Switch news, everybody! The YouTube app is now available on Nintendo’s portable console, which means gamers around the world now have an additional mobile device from which to stream their videos.
YouTube is the second video streaming app to make its debut on the Switch – Hulu made the transition last November. Yes, in a year’s time, the Nintendo has added a total of one new Streaming app to its service. It can be downloaded for free on the Nintendo eShop.
YouTube on the Nintendo Switch isn’t very different from other mobile devices, except in how it supports the 360-degree view feature. According to The Verge, the console offers partial touchscreen functionality. While you can use the touchscreen for searches and popping into new videos, you cannot navigate the interface with your finger. That requires the left joystick and main buttons; the right joystick, on the other hand (no pun intended), operates the 360 camera. Nintendo will be updating the app’s functionality as they go.
For now, players can sign into YouTube with their Google accounts. The account is convenient for users who purchase videos and would like to stream them on the go. It’s as simple as navigating under “purchases.” Just as well, you can dock the console for optimal visuals at home.
Now that YouTube’s on the Switch, hopefully, it won’t be another year before the next Streaming app. Fans have been patiently waiting for the arrival of Netflix; as far as we know, they’ve held discussions with Nintendo in the matter. Stay tuned for updates as they arrive.
