The Protagonist, Arthur Morgan, Also Originally Had Two Love Interests
A recently published article on Vulture about two interviews with Rockstar Games co-founder, Dan Houser, reported that Red Dead Redemption 2’s singleplayer campaign is 65 hours long. Notably, the article doesn’t explain whether that playtime involves only the main story or the main story & side content.
According to Vulture, “five hours of the 65-hour game” were cut as the highly-anticipated title neared release. Apparently, some of that cut content was one of the two love interests that the game’s protagonist, Arthur Morgan, could’ve gotten involved with.
Rockstar also had to cut entire missions from the game, according to Dan Houser. Those missions were cut because “they were never going to work technically or be quite slick enough, or they felt superfluous,” explained Houser.
“We removed a mission on a train where you had to deal with bounty hunters, because it was fun at first, but then it wasn’t,” Houser said. “This part of the process is always about compromise and horse trading. Everyone always loses bits of the game they love.”
On a separate note, Houser also revealed to Vulture that the developers behind Red Dead Redemption 2 sometimes had to work “100-hour weeks” this year in order to complete the game.
