I’m So Confused
The Quiet Man is an upcoming Square Enix game featuring a deaf protagonist. This in turn, leaves the player also unable to hear anything that takes place in the game. It’s a fascinating premise, which makes this free update all the more confusing at first. Why on earth would you allow sound for a second playthrough of the game?
The news was revealed during today’s livestream event, along with details about the game’s theme song. “The Quiet,” by Imogen Heap, is supposed to evoke the feeling of hearing the world around you for the first time. Apparently the developers approached her to compose the theme with a handwritten letter over a year ago.
It makes sense that a second playthrough would feature sound. After all, you’d really appreciate the presence of all that noise after being deprived of it the first time around. On the other hand, this means that the team made The Quiet Man from start to finish with sound, voice acting and music, only to wipe it all away afterwards. I imagine certain members of the team were actually quite relieved to learn that players would be able to hear the work they’d done after all. The Quiet Man is slated for release on November 1st for the PS4 and PC.
