Capcom’s Growth Strategy Involves New Releases, ‘Dormant’ IPs & Remakes
A recently released Capcom integrated report states that the company plans to launch “major multiple titles each fiscal year” due to a “shortened” launch cycle. Also, as part of their growth strategy, Capcom will focus on releasing titles for major IPs and utilizing “dormant IP and remakes”.
Capcom plans on releasing “approximately three major titles each year” along with developing “additional content” for those games in order to increase their sales.
When it comes to their “catalog titles”, they plan on making a profit through “download sales of past titles” and “rereleasing past hit titles for current-generation game consoles.”
“For the time being, we will place a priority on maximizing the revenue from current core IP, while also actively utilizing dormant IP,” part of their growth strategy read. “As the creation of new IP is also indispensable for medium- to long-term growth, we will concurrently create new brands as well.”
Capcom’s business strategy regarding developing more remakes & using “dormant” IPs lines up with comments made during an official Q&A held earlier this year where they expressed an interest in utilizing games in their “back catalog”.
