Red Dead Redemption 2’s File Size Is F***ing Massive

PlayStation 4 Owners Get Timed Exclusivity

Save up that hard drive space because we just learned about Red Dead Redemption 2‘s file size. It’s massive, more massive than any of its 200 in-game animals’ genitalia (probably why it’s so large, to begin with). According to the PlayStation 4 Pro limited edition box, the game requires a minimum storage of 105 GB.

As everyone should be aware, 105 GB of memory on a console is gigantic. Sure, Xbox One users are probably used to the size since they’re always downloading 4K assets, but this is PlayStation 4. Therefore, physical copies of the game are likely to come with two Blu-ray discs. Even then, players have to account for patches and updates, so imagine what it’s like to download the full game in the digital marketplace. Not to mention the file size of Red Dead Online.

The box also confirms that Red Dead Online will accommodate 2-32 players, which is incredible. Grand Theft Auto Online could facilitate more, but that’s technically a game from the previous generation. RDR2, on the other hand, is a beast of spectacle, innovative game mechanics, and realism. Therefore, we should probably expect a hefty file size for the online portion, on top of the base game. If such is the case, maybe Rockstar Games will make the online attachment optional? Otherwise, you have a game that requires much more than 1/5th of your standard PS4’s 500 GB hard drive space.

Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Pro Bundle

If the PS4 Pro bundle wasn’t already a confirmation, the back reveals PlayStation’s exclusive deal with Rockstar. Like with Call of Duty, PlayStation 4 owners get access to new content 30 days ahead of everyone else. That includes expansions for Red Dead Online and any potential single-player story add-ons (which are unlikely).

Has the 105 GB file size dissuaded you from purchasing Red Dead Redemption 2? If not, I hope you have an external hard drive lined up. Me, I installed 2TB in my PS4 a long time ago, so I’m not worried. Comment your thoughts on the update below.
