Minecraft: Dungeons Explores the Series’ Multiverse
Developer Mojang just announced Minecraft: Dungeons, a new game in the Minecraft universe that will hit PC’s in 2019. The announcement was made during Minecon Earth 2018.
The game was created by a “small and dedicated team” at Mojang that describes it as an “action-adventure game inspired by classic dungeon crawlers.” It will support up to four players and offer players new items, weapons, and mobs, as well as unique environments to delve into and an overarching story that pits players against an enemy called Arch-Illager.
“What exactly is Minecraft: Dungeons? It’s an all-new action-adventure game inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, where you’ll constantly discover new weapons and items that will help you defeat a ruthless swarm of new-and-nasty mobs,” the Majong’s official announcement reads. “You’ll fight or flee through canyons, swamps and – of course – mines!”
“You can brave the dungeons alone, or team up with friends. Up to four players can battle together through action-packed, treasure-stuffed, wildly varied levels, all in an epic quest to save the villagers and take down the evil Arch-Illager!”
“When I think of Minecraft I think about it as a multiverse,” said Jens Bergensten, lead developer at Mojang. “Dungeons is essentially one Minecraft world with specific areas to go to, specific quests, and specific monsters. That said there are of course procedural elements to the game.”
Mojang also announced that new Villagers and Pillagers and coming to Minecraft in 2019, as well as new pandas and cats “very soon.”
