Capcom Removes Devil May Cry 5 Battle Theme After Allegations Against Lead Singer Resurface

Devil May Cry 5’s Battle Theme Might Not Make It to the Finished Product

Capcom has removed a video of new Devil May Cry 5 battle music by deathcore band Suicide Silence after many fans told the developer that the band’s lead singer was accused in November of being sexually inappropriate and emotionally manipulative with a 17-year-old fan.

As of now, Capcom does not plan to promote the song anymore and is deciding on how to approach the music’s inclusion in the game. The track is a collaboration between video game composer Cody Matthew Johnson and Suicide Silence.

“The music was recorded for the game before the incident came to light and we were unaware of the incident until now,” Capcom said in a statement. “However, as we are now aware of the current situation, Capcom has decided that moving forward, we will not further highlight the Dante battle theme for promotional purposes at this time. We are also currently evaluating what options are possible for the full game at this point, which is dependent on various factors such as resources.”

The initial allegations were made in November 2017 by a fan that accused the band’s singer, Eddie Hermida, of manipulating her sexually and sending her nude pictures when she was 17.

“He toyed with me and manipulated me into sending him nudes, which I was totally against. But hey, if your idol wants nudes, you send them.”

Hermia later apologized and claimed that she told him she was 18.

“I was raised by a single mom who taught me to be respectful to all women,” wrote Hermida. “I am ashamed that I have failed.”

Devil May Cry 5 is set to ship on March 8, 2019. It’s unclear whether the song will be included in the finished game.
