Sony Has yet Another Cringy Response to Cross-Play
Sony has been no stranger to cross-play controversy over the course of this year and despite the fact that this controversy has died down over the past few months, the company has decided yet again, to respond to the issue. Following multiple cringeworthy responses in the past, this may just be the worst one so far.
Back in June Nintendo revealed Fortnite, arguably the hottest game on the entire planet Earth right now, would be coming to the Switch, though fans were disappointed to learn that their accounts on PSN would not link to their Switch, therefore losing all progress if they wanted to play in a new way. At the time Sony offered a vague, yet mildly hopeful, response that suggested they may change their mind about cross-play eventually. Now it seems that’s just not the case as Sony’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida recently had a very different response at the IFA technology show in Berlin, Germany.
Yoshida maintains that they do not want to compromise their gaming experience by allowing cross platform play with other consoles. “On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief. But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform.” He then added that he welcomes the competition from Xbox and Nintendo, “I think competition is always good. Healthy, fair competition is always good for the industry and growth. I think competition with Nintendo and Xbox is a healthy situation.”
While it’s good to see Sony have so much confidence in their products, it’s hard to see them make the same mistakes over and over, especially considering that their technology may not exactly be the best thing on the market anymore…we’re looking at you Xbox One X. Looks like they’ll be sending someone from PR to clean up this mess!
