Little Nightmares: The Little Game That Could
Tarsier Studios has announced that Little Nightmares, the Tim Burton-esque horror platformer, has sold over one million copies. That counts for both digital and physical copies across Xbox One, PS4, Steam, and Nintendo Switch.
“We’re very proud that our first original game sold so well, it’s well beyond what we ever expected,” said Tarsier Studios CEO Andres Johnsson in a statement. “Little Nightmares is after all part of an indie game landscape, and the fact that one million players have played our game is wonderful. This achievement is a milestone for both Tarsier Studios and Little Nightmares. To have created an original game that becomes as successful is proof that the new direction for the studio was the right choice, and that feels great.”
Little Nightmares was released last year for consoles and PC and received critical acclaim from various outlets, including ourselves. At the Nordic Game Conference in May 2018, the game took home the awards for Best Audio and Best Art.
A Nintendo Switch port also arrived in May of this year, in the form of a Complete Edition. It contained the base game as well as the runaway Kid DLC. You can check out what we said about the Switch version in our review. Below is a snippet of what we said about it:
“Little Nightmares is a perfect example of doing lots with so little. It succeeds as an excellently taut piece of visual storytelling while also delivering a compelling gameplay experience. It happens to be one of the more unique horror games out there thanks to a detailed art style, fantastic animation, and top-notch sound design. Little Nightmares can be a bit on the short side, but the added story DLC, which is approximately the same runtime, help add more value for your buck. If you’re looking to play something a little different on your Nintendo Switch, make sure you don’t sleep on Little Nightmares.”
