Horizon: Zero Dawn Board Game Announced

Take The Fight For Humanity to The Table

The studio behind the Dark Souls board game, Steamforged Games, announced at Gen Con 2018 that they’re working on a board game based on Sony’s 2017 hit exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Steamforged says they’ve been hard at work on the board game since before Zero Dawn released last year, and that they’ve been working directly with Guerilla Games to accurately capture the essence of the popular video game. Guerilla is even going so far as to consider the board game the “next Horizon: Zero Dawn,” saying that despite its story-lite approach, the events that take place are canon in the Horizon world, and will be set after the events of the main game and the Frozen Wilds DLC.

The game will play in a competitive/co-operative way where players stealthily hunt machines while trying to get the highest score out of everyone playing. Full games are estimated to run for roughly an hour and a half, consisting of around 5 hunts that progressively get more difficult. Players will pick a deck of skills at the beginning of the game, and replace weaker cards with stronger ones before taking on the last giant machine.

There’s no release date on the board game yet but be sure to check out our review for Horizon: Zero Dawn which is currently available exclusively for PS4. Let us know what you think in the comments and stay tuned to COGconnected for all the latest gaming news!
