Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Sounds Like It’s A Full-Blown RPG
A new video for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that was uploaded onto YouTube recently had a lot of in-depth info about the game’s RPG mechanics. According to Ubisoft, the upcoming game will emphasize player choice and allow players to create different in-game builds.
“With Assassin’s Creed going into a fully-fledged open-world RPG, we knew that choice was the next logical step for us,” said Melissa MacCoubrey, the narrative creative director of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. MacCoubrey also explained that choice is a major factor of the game and mentioned, among other things, that players can choose between aiding the Athenians or the Spartans in the Peloponnesian War.
“[Choice] had to be everywhere or nowhere at all in terms of how we were looking at making things,” MacCoubrey added.
She also said that there’s going to be multiple endings and that these endings will happen as a result of certain quests that the player has completed, not due to a single choice made during the endgame. Notably, according to her, the choices the player makes won’t restrict them from playing “half the game for making these choices, you’re simply going to have your own unique experience.”
Players will also have lots of options when it comes to how they play, according to creative director Jonathan Dumont. “If I want to shoot people with bow & arrows and specialize in that, you can do it. If you feel like [using melee weapons], you can do it as well,” explained Dumont. “And if you feel [like being stealthy] … getting the drop on them, that’s all available for you as well.”
Dumont also mentioned that the NPCs that the player can romance “don’t necessarily intertwine with the bigger picture, so they’re much more regional content stories or a little bit more for fun.”
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set to come out on October 5th for the PC, PS4 & Xbox One.
