Horror Classics Reach the Next Generation of Xbox

Two new games are coming to Xbox Backward compatibility, in the form of the horror game(s) that defined a genre. Silent Hill HD Collection and Silent Hill Homecoming  are now available as “Games on Demand.”

If you own an Xbox One, the Backward Compatibility library is a place where you might want to spend much of your time. If you’re any fan of horror but haven’t played the Silent Hill games, now’s your chance. Published by Konami, the first game received major critical acclaim when it released back in 1999. Since then, the franchise has proven that games can offer some of the best psychological thrill rides. Silent Hill 2 and 3 carry on the tradition in the HD Collection:

Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 2 follows the sad story of James Sunderland as he woefully enters the sleepy town by a mysterious letter from his deceased wife. Seeking the chance to see her again beckoned by guilt and remorse, he stumbles upon his these fears manifested through unseen evil and ominous characters leading him to the asylum of another world. The fight against the truth that his wife has died, James must escape the lumbering demon Red Pyramid (a.k.a Pyramid Head) along with his mystified fears that have taken the form of living monsters within the haze that is Silent Hill.

PS: Just recently, a play found a hidden minimap, many years after the game’s release.

Silent Hill 3

Serving as a sequel to the original Silent Hill game, Silent Hill 3 centers on the forces of the demonic cult that spreads the insanity of the otherworld through Claudia, a cult member attempting to bring Harry Mason’s daughter, Heather, into Silent Hill. With a subplot and themes involving the loss of innocence and childhood, a web of intrigue is spun by Claudia with intentions to birth a new god.

Silent Hill Homecoming

In Silent Hill Homecoming, Alex Shepherd has returned to his hometown of Shepherd’s Glen to investigate the sudden disappearance of his brother. From Shepherd’s Glen to the foggy streets of Silent Hill, Alex will face the darkest of horrors while struggling with his own grip on reality. Alex must unravel the mystery behind his nightmares, discover the truth behind his brother’s disappearance, and confront the evil that has taken hold of his soul.
