The Writer of the Team Fortress 2 Comics is Back at Valve
Jay Pinkerton, a writer on Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, and the Left 4 Dead series, is back at Valve after departing the company just over a year ago.
Pinkerton left Valve in 2017 following the departure of a wave of other veteran writers including Eric Wolpaw, Chet Faliszek (who also co-wrote Portal 2), and Marc Laidlaw.
Now it looks like Pinkerton is back, as spotted by Reddit user OWLverlord (via PC Gamer), who noticed the return of his name on Valve’s staff page. PC Gamer also received an email from a company representative confirming Pinkerton’s return. He is now listed under the “Other Experts” category, alongside a short bio, instead of “Writing.” It is unclear what role Pinkerton will serve now that he is back.
Pinkerton was a co-writer on Portal 2 but also contributed to both Left 4 Dead games and penned the Team Fortress 2 comics. Some Redditors are speculating that he will resume his old role for TF2 since he had previously stated that he would be interested in reprising that role.
Pinkerton’s return lines up nicely with Gabe Newell’s recent announcement that the company is back to developing and shipping new games. The DOTA-themed card battler, Artifact, will be the first of several new projects coming from Valve in the foreseeable future.
