Yakuza 6 Has Sold An Estimated 900,000 Copies, Says Series Creator

Kiryu’s Final Journey Has Been A Big Sales Success!

According to Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life has sold an estimated 800,000 to 900,000 copies in Japan, Asia, America and Europe combined.

“Yakuza used to sell by the loads in Japan and trickled in sales overseas before, but now overseas sales have reached about as much as they do in Japan,” Nagoshi reportedly said during an official Sega stream last week.

Nagoshi also explained why Yakuza 3, 4 & 5 are getting remastered instead of remade Yakuza Kiwami-style.

He said that Sega initially wanted to remake those three Yakuza games but he felt that the graphical gap between those PS3 games and the PS4 games wasn’t wide enough to warrant full-on remakes (unlike the PS2 Yakuza games). He added that the remakes of the three games also would’ve taken too much time away from the development of Yakuza 6 and possibly could’ve delayed it. So it was decided that they were going to get remastered instead.

The Yakuza 3 remaster is set to come out on August 9th in Japan while the Yakuza 4 remaster is currently scheduled to launch later this year in the Fall. The remaster of the 5th game is set to come out in Spring 2019.
