State of Decay 2 Beats out PS4 Exclusives God of War and Detroit: Become Human
In a rather surprising turn of events, State of Decay 2 was the top-selling game last month, beating out PS4 exclusives like God of War and Detroit: Become Human.
State of Decay 2 was released on May 22nd for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. It is a cross-buy title and was also available day one for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. According to NPD numbers, the game doubled the sales of the original State of Decay.
Coming in second and third place was God of War and Detroit: Become Human respectively. Since it’s release in April, God of War has become the second best-selling game of 2018, trailing behind Ubisoft’s Far Cry 5.
State of Decay 2 being May’s top-selling game is somewhat of a surprise considering it’s part of Xbox Game Pass. If you have forgotten, Xbox Game Pass is a $9.99/mth subscription that allows access to over 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 games. Microsoft announced in March that all first-party games would be available for download on Xbox Game Pass on launch day. The first game to put this to test was Rare’s Sea of Thieves. It too sold extremely well, despite being on Xbox Game Pass for, essentially, a lower price.
Overall, May was a strong showing for everyone. Even Nintendo Switch software had the highest software revenue in May for any Nintendo platform since the Wii in 2011.
Below is the list for May 2018’s best-selling games (the ‘*’ means digital sales are not included):
