Panic Button is Working on Another Switch Port, Announcement Soon

Studio Behind DOOM and Wolfenstein II Ports Hard at Work

Panic Button, the studio that has made a name for itself porting AAA games to the Nintendo Switch, is currently working on another Switch port expected to be announced next month.

Adam Creighton, director of development and co-owner of Panic Button, dropped the juicy tidbit during a recent interview with Variety. Unfortunately, that’s all he was wishing to divulge. Instead, he talked about how his studio has been working on the Switch hardware for a really long time.

“We’ve been working on the hardware for a long time, almost six years,” he said. “That’s more than almost any third party.”

His studio was in charge of bringing over Rocket League, DOOM, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to Nintendo’s hybrid console. Their porting efforts have been widely praised for maintaining the quality and spirit of the original games without too much visual degradation. Wolfenstein II will be released at the end of this month on June 29th.

The most encouraging thing about the studios’ ports is that it shows that big AAA games are a possibility on Switch, despite claims of it being underpowered when compared to the competition. Wolfenstein II, in particular, has brought a different sort of challenge for the team.

“We’re really pushing the engine forward and everything else,” Creighton said. “We’re trying to hold onto all of those visuals. We’re really proud with what we did.”

Just like their DOOM port, the game will run at a stable 30 fps with a variable resolution around the 720p mark. It will also include motion controls.

So with all that said, what port is Panic Button currently working on then? Do you have an idea? Leave us a comment down below.
