Yoko Taro’s Latest Game Takes the World By Storm
NieR: Automata, a third-person character action game, has sold more than three million copies worldwide on the PS4 & the digital platform Steam, according to a tweet from the game’s official Twitter account.
“The PlayStation 4/Steam [versions of] ‘NieR: Automata’ has surpassed 3 million in total worldwide shipping and download sales. Really, thank you very much,” the translated version of the tweet read.
These sales figures are especially good news for series creator Yoko Taro since he’s expressed interest in the past for creating more NieR games. “I do think that we might be able to open another door in the NieR universe, I don’t know how long it might take but I do want you guys to look forward to that,” Taro reportedly said during a panel at PAX East earlier this year.
NieR: Automata is about two combat androids named 2B and 9S who fight mechanical enemies in a post-apocalyptic world. The game mainly garnered a lot of praise for its story & themes regarding philosophical questions about the nature of humanity.
Our own review praised it extensively for its combat system, soundtrack and beautiful graphics. “Even if you haven’t touched Darkengard or NieR in the past, I can’t recommend NieR: Automata enough,” our reviewer wrote. “It’s such an interesting meld of open RPG, twitch action, platformer, bullet hell shooter that shouldn’t be ignored by anyone.”
