People Can Fly, developer of Painkiller, Bulletstorm, and Gears of War: Judgement, have announced that they’re working on a new “AAA shooter” with Square Enix.
This announcement came as somewhat of a footnote in the studio’s latest update regarding expansion of its development teams. People Can Fly announced that they’ve opened two new locations in Rzeszow, Poland, and Newcastle, United Kingdom, where former Ubisoft developers and staff are “bringing a wealth of knowledge to the studio.” The Rzeszow location is allegedly host to “around 30” developers who have contributed to the popular “Sniper: Ghost Warrior” franchise.
At the end of the update, before a career-focused call to action, People Can Fly confirms that all three of their studios are currently hard at work on a new shooter IP “alongside” Square Enix. Whether that means Square is providing in house development assistance, or simply watching carefully over the developer’s work is yet to be seen.
This news comes one week after Square Enix announced their first dedicated E3 video presentation showcase in three years. We’ll likely get an official announcement and more information on the title then.
People Can Fly was picked up by Epic shortly after the release of Bulletstorm back in 2012, a game my innocent Grandmother called “very creative.” I mean, she’s not wrong. The developer decided to fly solo in 2015 and dropped a remaster of Bulletstorm last year, but we haven’t heard anything about a new project since it’s original release.
