Physical Release Grants a 100-Page Art Book and Soundtrack
The long-awaited physical edition of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero for the Nintendo Switch will finally see the light of day when the Ultimate Day One Edition hits select North American retailers on May 8th.
The announcement of a physical edition comes almost a full year after the game was made available digitally on the Switch eShop. If you’ve been holding out for a boxed copy, then the Ultimate Edition sounds like a wish come true.
The physical release comes packed with the game’s 30-song soundtrack called “Risky Beats,” a 100-page art book, plus all the post-launched DLC including ‘Pirate Queen’s Quest,’ Friends Mode,’ and the recently-announced ‘Costume Mode.’ In other words, this is the definitive version you’ve been waiting for.
Pirate Queen’s Quest stars the bodacious buccaneer Risky Boots who must collect five mysterious components scattered throughout the game in order to bend Sequin Land to her will. Friends Mode puts you in control of Shantae’s friends Sky, Bolo, and Rottytops where they are dragged into her nightmare where they must save her. Then, finally, in Costume Mode players can don Shantae with some new garb in three new arcade-style adventures. They include Ninja Shantae, Beach Shantae, and the Mighty Switch Force-inspired Officer Shantae.
Fans can pick up the retail edition on May 8th for $39.99 USD. WayForward, the game’s developer, will also release an updated digital version of the Ultimate Edition on the same day for Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam. It will be priced cheaper at $29.99 USD and features the same in-game content but without the soundtrack and artbook.
