DayZ Is Relaunching on PC with New Engine

DayZ Is Getting a Makeover

The open world survival horror game DayZ is relaunching on PC with a new engine before the end of the month. Although it generated quite a bit of hype a few years back, it has been stuck in Early Access on PC since 2013. However, developer Bohemia Interactive still assures that itโ€™s hitting Xbox Game Preview at some point in 2018.

โ€œWeโ€™re releasing DayZ on a new engine in a couple of weeks on PC, and itโ€™s gonna be coming to Game Preview on Xbox this year,โ€ said lead producer Eugen Harton. โ€œThatโ€™s basically our aim. I would almost say itโ€™s a reboot of DayZ on PC.โ€

In regards to the title leaving Early Access, Harton didnโ€™t comment. But he did touch on the relaunch in light of the many titles competing with DayZ.

โ€œIt might not become a mainstream thing, but thatโ€™s not our customer,โ€ he said. โ€œIโ€™m okay with that. I know what game Iโ€™m making โ€“ I donโ€™t want to appeal to everybody. I still feel like we have not hit our peak. This is the year of DayZ.โ€

โ€œThe hardcore simulation weโ€™re working on is not gonna compete with PUBG, Itโ€™s not gonna compete with Fortnite.โ€

Harton thinks that DayZ will appeal to a different customer than Fortnite and PUBG, which he says appeal to children and competitive types, respectively.

โ€œI think we have a different customer. Iโ€™m pretty sure of that,โ€ he said.

And while theyโ€™re still planning a console release, they are now aiming to release it on Xbox One before the PlayStation 4.

โ€œAs soon as the PC beta is headed in a way we like, weโ€™re still committed to bringing DayZ to Xbox, where we have a large community of gamers patiently (very patiently!) waiting for a truly hardcore online survival game,โ€ Harton said.
