Several Users Report Being Affected by the Glitch
Xbox Live users have apparently been hit by a recent glitch that reveals their real names to other users, according to this thread on the Xbox One subreddit.
The thread’s author explained that they when they woke up in the morning, someone told them that their actual last name was being shown for their Xbox Live profile. The author went on to claim that even the real names of famous streamers were being shown.
“I went through my entire friend list and I know for a fact none of these people have ever showed their name before,” the thread’s author explained. “We all go by nicknames and having your last name show is a HUGE BREACH in security.”
The thread’s author said that they were “100%” sure that they didn’t replace their old username with their real name and was adamant about wanting their personal information kept private. “I have no interest in strangers possibly knowing my whereabouts or whatever else they can get from knowing my real name,” the thread’s author said.
Several other Xbox Live users throughout the thread’s replies also confirmed that they had been affected by the glitch.
“I can verify that this also changed for me. I had to go and manually change the You can share your name with Friends of Friends back to Block. Somehow it got changed to Allow,” said one Xbox Live user.
“My name is always a fake name, but it was changed to my real name somehow. I can’t remove it either. Looking at my Microsoft accounts shipping settings, I see all of my old addresses have appeared as well. I get an error when trying to delete them,” said another. “This is a huge issue and needs to be resolved ASAP.”
Notably, several other replies to the thread stated that they hadn’t been affected by the glitch.
A Microsoft employee (who identified himself as “Brad”) that posts in the Xbox One subreddit stated in the thread that Xbox was “actively investigating this.” “Thanks for reporting and your patience,” he said.
However, as of yesterday, it seems that the issue still remains for the thread’s author and several others, according to the thread.
“It’s now been more than 20 hours since this post and it hasn’t been fixed,” the thread’s author stated on March 2nd. “No word from Microsoft even though they responded in this thread.”

Update (3/4/2018): An Xbox Live user named “TF TreeFiddy” reached out to us on Twitter and said that they were also affected by this glitch. The user said that the glitch caused their whole name to be revealed on the profile. The user said that they had to “go in and block” the feature that shows your real name to others.
