Epic Is Releasing $12 Million of Unreal Engine Paragon Assets for Free

Every Single Character Model Will Be Available

Though it seemed like a promising and worthwhile MOBA, Epic Games’ Paragon just didn’t retain as many players as the devs would have liked. Certainly, not enough to justify continued support. At the very least, Epic was kind enough to refund players for all their spent money. But they’ve decided to be more generous in the game’s aftermath.

According to a new report, Epic Games will make all Paragon’s Unreal Engine 4 assets available at no cost. That’s $12 million worth of assets available to anyone who uses the engine, and you don’t have to spend a single dime. Considering the quality of the textures in the game, that’s mighty generous. Users will have access to every character and all their individual functions, as well as the thousands of environmental pieces. In hindsight, it’s a bit hard to believe the qualities of this game couldn’t retain a larger playerbase.

Expect to see all Paragon assets in the Unreal Engine Marketplace:

“Characters: 20 Paragon Hero characters will be initially available including all skins for distinct character variants. The release also includes base meshes, thousands of textures, VFX and animation cycles, and dialogue with hundreds of sound cues. The character Shinbi comes with an animation Blueprint which can be tailored to specific needs. Epic sends special thanks to OTOY and 3D Scan Store for granting permission to keep intact the high-quality character materials using their facial and body scanning technologies as part of this release.

“– Environments: The Paragon release includes over 1,500 environment assets created for the Agora and Monolith maps, including a sample map for developers to use and customize as desired.

“– More to Come: Epic will release millions of dollars worth of additional Paragon asset packs beyond the initial $12 million offering through spring and summer 2018.”

Looks like Epic really is making the most of an unfortunate circumstance, but that must mean they’re really raking in the Fortnite money. That’s fine since we don’t want them to go anywhere anytime soon. I, for one, look forward to seeing how other devs and indies utilize the assets. Stay tuned for special news.

Happy gaming.
