Cut To Steepled Fingers of Concern
EA’s Star Wars reputation isn’t in terrific shape at present. After a fairly rocky run with Battlefront 2, whatever the company does next with the franchise will be very closely scrutinized. On that note, it looks like they’re going to be making an open world Star Wars game!
A posting on the company’s internal job board suggests that EA has a big new Stars Wars project in the pipes. It looks like they’re seeking a lead online engineer, someone who will ‘lead a team to deliver online features for a Star Wars open-world project.’ There’s also a mention about managing tons of traffic on multiple platforms, suggesting that this project will be on all the relevant systems. You know, your PS4s, your PCs, your Xbones. The usual suspects.
This news comes after the announcement that Visceral was shutting down. That division’s single player Star Wars project was waylaid, set to be sent in a different direction. Apparently that direction is a more ambitious open world project? Here’s hoping that whatever EA drums up in the wake of Visceral’s dissolution ends up drawing even a little less ire than Battlefront 2. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with every scrap of new information as it’s revealed.
