The Cyberpunk 2077 Team Is Getting Bigger and Bigger
Warsaw-based studio CD Projekt RED is moving forward with Cyberpunk 2077 development by expanding its holdings. In their latest move, theyโre incorporating Wroclaw-based studio Strange New Things. The studio shall thereafter be called CD Projekt Wroclaw.
According to PlayStation Universe, a โpreliminary agreementโ all but guarantees that Strange New Things shall come under the opening umbrella of CD Projekt RED. The studio, comprised of an 18-man team, is home to ex-developers from critically-acclaimed studio Techland; their portfolio includes Dying Light, Hitman, and Dead Island.
Revealed in a press release, CDPR acquired the studio in order to recruit yet more developers to their ever-growing team. Wroclaw provides an alternative workspace for talent that cannot make the move to the companyโs bases in Warsaw or Cracow.
โWrocลaw is one of the biggest and most technologically advanced cities in Poland and a playing field for serious creative talent. I think the scope of our current and future projects, as well as the overall package weโre bringing in, will pull in people who were hesitant to move to Warsaw or Cracow.โ โ says Adam Kiciลski, President and Joint CEO, CD PROJEKT Capital Group. โThe founding dev team of CDPR Wrocลaw is already pretty stellar, but I still canโt wait to see what talents weโll discover in new people along the way.โ
It is never a mistake to add talent to a team. Considering the popularity of CD Projekt RED and its properties, I have been of the opinion that it was only a matter of time before the company inducted or built yet more studios. For the time being, it seems all labor is being funneled into the ambitious project that is Cyberpunk 2077. Expect further updates at this yearโs E3 conference.
