Anthem’s Story Seems to Be in Good Hands
What should be no secret by now, writer Drew Karpyshyn has left BioWare. Known for his work on the Mass Effect series, his departure has caused many fans to speculate on the fate of the game’s story. While manager Casey Hudson has promised his work is done, BioWare team member Brennon Holmes has elaborated on that aspect. Not only do we have competent lead writers still working on the project, but he revealed some of the studio’s initiative on developing color-blind options in Anthem and settings for the hearing-impaired.
Once again, Holmes delivered Anthem intel by responding to fan questions on Reddit. In his response about the lead writers for Anthem, he revealed that they are Cathleen Rootsaert (Mass Effect series, Star Wars: The Old Republic) and Jay Turner (Mass Effect series, Dragon Age: Origins). Apparently, Karpyshyn finished his work on the project and the narrative of the game looks like it’s still getting its due attention. Worst-case scenario: the story gets scrapped and we get a repeat of year-one Destiny. I doubt it, however.
In another thread, Holmes revealed more. BioWare is working to facilitate players with hearing and seeing disabilities. The thread mentions possibilities for assisting those with hearing impediments, but Holmes elaborated more on how Anthem will aid players visually. “We have the colorblind stuff up and running right now,” he said. “I believe the options are for: Protanopia, Deuteranopia and Tritanopia.”
Holmes expanded further on Anthem’s gameplay when a fan asked about how puzzles will include visual cues. “Yeah, I can’t promise we won’t have any… but it’s something we’re keeping an eye on,” he said. “We don’t want to have mechanics that are purely visual or aural (especially if the visual aspects are tied strongly to colour).”
Stay tuned for Anthem updates as time goes by. We have the rest of the year ahead of us.
Happy gaming.
