Prepare Those Thinking Caps for QUBE 2 on March 13th
Toxic Games has confirmed a release date for QUBE 2 (or Q.U.B.E. 2) today, the sequel to its 2011 first-person puzzle adventure. It will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 13th. This confirms Toxic Games’ original “early 2018” estimate for the game.
QUBE 2 will differ from the original game by featuring an all-new cast of characters including the protagonist, Amelia Cross. Amelia awakens in an alien world with no recollection of how she got there. Using her unique pair of gloves that can manipulate her environment, Amelia sets out to find a stranded scientist named Emma Sutcliffe — who is communicating with her via radio — in hopes of escaping and finding a way home. Toxic Games is aiming to explore themes of trust, isolation, and humanity through the story of QUBE 2.
“We’re very proud of how Q.U.B.E. 2 has shaped up – no pun intended – after nearly five years of development,” said Dan Da Rocha, Managing Director at Toxic Games. “When we made the first Q.U.B.E. we were still students, but after a half-decade of real industry experience, we’ve put together the kind of premium product we’ve always dreamed of. We hope you have as much fun playing it as we did making it.”
The game will span 11 chapters with over 80 puzzles to solve using the “manipulation gloves.” Players will explore a monolithic structure filled with alien technology all the while solving puzzles in “open-ended gameplay.”
The original game received a Director’s Cut in 2014 for the PC that featured an expanded story and enhanced graphics, new voice acting, an original soundtrack, and a new time trial mode. It came to current consoles the following year.
