Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirate crew are set to explore a mysterious, government-controlled island
Bandai Namco has revealed (a tiny bit) more information on One Piece World Seeker. The open-world game uses the universe created by Eiichiro Oda in his top-selling manga.
The manga follows Monkey D. Luffy, a pirate who dreams of becoming the Pirate King. After eating a Devil Fruit that makes his body rubber, he and the Straw Hat Pirate crew embarks on a quest for the treasure known as One Piece. The game will follow Luffy as he arrives on a mysterious island.
Although details of the game are still vague, the story takes place in “a new world where various cultures and environments live together.” Players will guide Luffy to unlocking a dark secret harbored by this strange new realm.
The island is controlled by the World Government using a marine force base. The multiple areas of the game will contain a delicate balance of both nature and technology. Areas revealed thus far are a canyon, mine, and harbor.
The screenshots released thus far look great. But what about actual gameplay?
Bandai Namco is being just as vague in this respect. Open-world gameplay can mean any number of things these days, so who knows what kind of quests are in store.
Regardless, Bandai Namco’s last game following Luffy, One Piece: Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition, was well-received here. The action-adventure game was created by Ganbarion, the same developer as the upcoming World Seeker. If that was any indication, the new installment into the series’ videogame run will be fun for both fans and non-fans alike.
One Piece World Seeker will be released sometime in 2018 on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s release is close to the series’ 20th anniversary on July 19th this year.
