Just in Time Before the New Tomb Raider Movie
Mattel has revealed a Lara Croft Barbie doll based on Alicia Vikander’s upcoming portrayal of the popular action heroine in the new Tomb Raider movie.
The new toy collectable was unveiled at the Mattel Collector event during the New York Toy Fair. Starting today, fans can pre-order the doll on barbie.com for $29.99. It comes with accessories too, including a map, journal, a doll stand, and Lara’s trademark axe. It also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
The Lara Croft barbie doll sports a grey tank top and green cargo pants, clothing that has signified the character ever since the series was rebooted in 2013. She also has some bandages around her thigh and bicep and brandishes the deadly climbing axe in her hand.
The collectable figurine arrives just before the new Tomb Raider movie hits screens on March 16th. It stars Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander in the leading role and is based on the rebooted Tomb Raider game from 2013 as well as 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider. A third game in the series has been confirmed that is rumoured to be called Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Movies based off of video games have had a difficult history of success. It’s hard to tell, based on the trailers, if this latest attempt to bring Lara to the big screen will break the curse but we’re still pretty excited to see it.
