Dragon Ball FighterZ Is the 2nd Best-Seller
As reported by industry-tracking firm The NPD Group, January 2018 was a better month for game revenue than last year. As a matter of fact, this past month witnessed a 59% year-on-year increase, generating a whopping $1.096 billion. During this interval of financial increase, Monster Hunter World led the charge.
Despite launching on January 26th, the end of the month, Capcom’s Monster Hunter World garnered the most revenue. Likewise, it garnered critical acclaim and is now sitting with a score of 90 on Metacritic. A great proportion of its success stems from its appeal to a wider audience. Opting for a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release, the franchise landed away from the usual Nintendo systems. Furthermore, the developers streamlined the gameplay and opted for a simultaneous global release. As a result, the first week saw Capcom ship 6 million copies, and the game is still selling well. As NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said, “Sales of Monster Hunter: World represent an all-time launch month high for the Monster Hunter franchise in the U.S.”
Overall, Dragon Ball FighterZ was the 2nd best-selling game of January. Therefore, Bandai Namco succeeded as the 2nd biggest publisher for the month. The overall numbers can be found below, and they include sales for consoles as well as PC.
