Hideki Kamiya Has Plans for Bayonetta 4 and 3DS Spinoff
As of now, Bayonetta’s eponymous shape-shifting witch is essentially Nintendo’s property. But despite some people taking that as a negative thing, series director Hideki Kamiya is happy with his developer PlatinumGames’ relationship with the company. He went as far as saying that Bayonetta 3 wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for them.
And it looks like Kamiya is already thinking ahead to the next instalment of the series. While the translate feature on Twitter isn’t the most accurate, he says something along the lines of “we have plans for a fourth game.”
Kamiya is full of ideas – he also said that he’s considering a Bayonetta spin-off for the 3DS that would star Jeanne as a history teacher.
“Given the chance, I’d like to make a game based on Jeanne from Bayonetta, something that’s not as big in scale. Something….where she’s a history teacher and the kind of fun things that could come out of a scenario like that.”
He’s also interested in an Okami spin-off and a StarFox game.
“If I could get away with it, I’d also like to come up with a spin-off of Okami, less focused on the grand idea of saving the world, but [rather] something focused on the smaller world of the fairy Issun.”
Speaking on a StarFox game:
“I can’t really commit to anything – if I was going to work on anything like that it’d come with huge responsibility, so I can’t say this lightly – but it’s something that I really love, and I’m personally speaking a huge fan of the franchise”), but before then who knows what?”
Bayonetta 3 is currently in development with no fixed release date. The first game in the series was released for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, and Bayonetta 2 was a Wii U exclusive. The third will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
The first two games were recently ported to the Nintendo Switch. If you haven’t played them, you still have plenty of time before the third hits stores.
