Uncharted Director Leaves Naughty Dog to Work on New Avengers Game

Goodbye Chloe Frazer, Hello Iron Man

The co-director and writer of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy has left Naughty Dog to work on the upcoming Avengers video game at Crystal Dynamics.

Shaun Escayg, who spent seven years at Naughty Dog, joined the studio during the early days of The Last of Us. He went on to contribute to the Left Behind DLC and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End before leading the charge on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

“Seven years ago I joined the talented team at Naughty Dog on a project still in its infancy, The Last Of Us,” said Escayg in a tweet, announcing his departure. “Well, the rest is history. Left Behind, Uncharted 4 were fleeting and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy pushed my creative growth even further- I will miss all my dogs.”

Although his tweet didn’t reveal what was next for him, his Instagram account dropped a logo of the Avengers with the caption “to new Adventures-bring it 2018!” strongly indicating that he’ll be working on it.

The Avengers project is untitled and was announced nearly a year ago. Crystal Dynamics struck a multi-game deal with Marvel to produce a wide range of titles. Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal is supposedly working on a Guardians of the Galaxy game as well.

It’s still unclear what Escayg’s role will be with the Avengers project; after all, it’s still very much early in development. Either way, we hope the best for Shaun Escayg in his new position. His talent will be missed.
