Ubisoft Listens Regarding Controversial Rainbow Six: Siege Update

Ubisoft Adjusts Latest Rainbow Six: Siege Update

Yesterday, Ubisoft announced the next Rainbow Six: Siege update, “Outbreak”, to many complaints. The update was controversial in that it simultaneously created a greater barrier of entry to new players while spurning the diehard fans. With a general uproar from the community, Ubisoft has since adjusted the planned update.

Put simply, Ubisoft planned to remove the Standard Edition, include character items only available in new, real-life currency loot boxes, and give ten of these new loot boxes to new players who purchase the Advanced Edition which would replace the Standard Edition. Luckily, Ubisoft heard their fans loud and clear and released a statement on the Rainbow Six subreddit, detailing how they planned to address concerns:

  • For our veteran players, any of you that play an online match between now and March 6th will receive the upcoming Ash Sidewinder Elite skin for free. The Ash Sidewinder Elite will be automatically granted to your inventory at the launch of Year 3 Season 1.
  • For our newcomers and those of you concerned about introducing your friends to the game, we will be keeping the Standard Edition in the store at the current price.
  • For those of you who have raised concerns over the Starter Edition when it comes to acquiring Operators, we will be sharing more information about our next steps during the Six Invitational. We recognize that this has been a point of frustration for new players, as well as existing players bringing their friends into the game, and have been working on how to make this process more fluid.

Response to the thread appears to be positive overall, with players happy particularly about the Standard Edition remaining due to its ability to continue adding to its playerbase. While many were unhappy with news of the update, Ubisoft’s response was quick and addressed concerns.
