Overwatch League Is Killing Porn Viewership, Site Claims

Data Shows Inverse Relationship Between Esports and Porn Traffic

With Overwatch League now in full swing, it seems to be stealing the show from other forms of entertainment. According to YouPorn, the new esports outlet is killing off the site’s traffic during every major interval of game time. New data from the first week shows that Blizzard Entertainment is rivaling adult entertainment.

This is not made up. YouPorn posted new graphs via ComicBook.com, and it looks like they’re having a hard time during major Overwatch League games. All other times, the adult site’s viewership climaxes regularly. But, during the first game that streamed on January 10th, 7 pm EST, YouPorn viewership fell by 9 percent its regular average.

January 10th: As the same Overwatch League game drew to a close, porn traffic gradually rose to regular numbers. Coincidence? Nope. Around 12 am, during the third match of the night, YouPorn traffic dropped off once again. And so, for many spectators, the only thing stiff about that night was the competition.

Drop-offs in views continued during the 2nd day, around 8 pm, when Philadelphia Fusion and Houston Outlaws battled intensely. The pivotal moments in Overwatch League games, apparently, lead to an upsurge of views for esports and a downward spiral for adult entertainment. Does this apply to other websites? Will this trend continue with the success of Overwatch League? Maybe. At its peak, Blizzard’s new esports branch witnessed 437,000 concurrent users; an average of 200,000 stuck around for every second of the matches.
